The Sixth Year Chemistry Class had a visit to day from Spectroscopy in a Suitcase by the Chemistry Department UCC.
Dr. Trevor Carey and Paul Buckley from the UCC Chemistry Department are sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry and Science Foundation Ireland to visit schools and give students hands on experience of using Infra-Red and UV Ray spectroscopy instruments that are traditionally only available in universities and colleges. The students used a combination of the results from both spectroscopy methods to identify aspirin and compare it to other similar medications.
Thanks to UCC for the opportunity.
