TY Students were thrilled to attend a book signing with famous author Cecilia Ahern in the Cork City Library recently. Cecilia was promoting her new book Flawed which is her Young Adult debut novel. There was a Q&A session with Cecilia and the students also got to meet her and she also signed their favourite Cecilia Ahern novel. The students described her as being 'extremely friendly and down to earth' and many were inspired to maybe write their own novels some day. Ms. S. Reed (English Teacher)
Second year students welcomed Kerry McMahon from the Cork Simon Community to present her with a cheque for € 1530.70 for this very deserving charity. The students raised this money in a recent Sleep in for Simon in St. Vincent's Secondary School Hall. Well done to the students for such an amazing achievement. The Simon Community will use the funds to support the many services it provides for the most vulnerable in our society. Ms. M. Fitzgerald (CSPE Teacher)
Congratulations to second year student Lauryn Homan on being awarded the title of Cork U14 Basketball Player of the Year 2016. Lauryn is a member of the Brunell Basketball Club since the age of six. She is currently a member of the St. Vincent's Secondary School Cadet Basketball Team. She plays at school, club and national level. Well done - we are very proud of you. We wish you every success in the future. As the Leaving Certificate Class of 2016 approach the end of their school days in St. Vincent's, they continue with the tradition of a coffee morning where the students share memories of their time in St. Vincent's with their friends and with the staff. We wish all students well in their exams. Health and happiness to you all as you enter a new chapter in your lives. Friday the 13th May brought nothing but blue skies and bright smiles to our first year students who enjoyed a geography trip to the Ailwee Caves and the Burren National Park. We set off bright and early and enjoyed the scenic route to the caves where students saw months of study come to life. Students enjoyed the stalagmites and stalactites and impressed the tour guide with their knowledge. We were then treated to a fantastic birds of prey show where some students even got to hold falcons and owls while other enjoyed the sunshine. We finished our trip with a stop in the Burren itself where we examined the clints, the grikes and the landscape Along the route we saw river features such as meanders, levees and the day was topped off with beautiful sunshine from dawn until dusk.
