Third year student Orla Murphy participated in the Basketball Ireland Training Programme for Schools during the summer under the tuition of Ger Gibbons. Following team selection she participated in the Inter Regional Tournament. She was joint captain with Anna Lynch (Cólaiste an Phiarsaigh) and was on the winning team from the South Region that beat the team from the North East in NUIG in Galway. Basketball is alive and well in St. Vincent’s as is proven by the fact that Orla’s classmate Laura Morrissey was on the winning team from the South Region last year. Basketball continues to thrive in the school due the dedication, commitment and hard work of the students and their coaches and due to the constant support and encouragement of their parents. |
