SVSS First Year students recently put their artistic skills to work in a very special way. The girls worked together over a number of weeks creating dozens of birthday cards for ‘Friendly Call’. This is a Cork Charity supported by the HSE and Cork City Partnership that tackles loneliness and isolation within the city’s elderly community, offering friendship and security through regular phone calls and visits.
Friendly Call volunteer Ms Brenda Barry was thrilled to receive the cards which will be sent to individual elderly people on their birthdays, bringing a unique sense of friendship and caring across the local community.
Students Mollie Blount, Louise McKenzie, Faye O’Connell and Danielle O’Connor speaking on behalf of their class said:
‘The project made me think about how it might feel to live with loneliness.’
‘It was a privilege to be involved in this special art project.’
‘I really enjoyed making these cards and I am very happy the elderly people will enjoy them too.’
