10/17/2018

Today Tuesday September 25th St Vincent’s 4th Years were treated to day out in beautiful West Cork as part of a cross curricular learning experience between the Science, Art and History departments.  Starting with a guided tour of the art exhibition Coming Home: The Great Hunger currently running at the West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen, the pupils saw works by Jack B. Yeats, Paul Henry, Rowan Gillespie and Dorethy Cross to name but a few.  Next, they explored the picturesque shores of Lough Hyne and the Knockomagh Wood Nature Reserve just outside Skibbereen, where they were kept busy collecting scientific data on various flora and fauna along with creating on-the-spot artworks in pencil and watercolour.  The trip was finished off with a viewing of a unique art installation on the grounds of Skibbereen Community Hospital titled 110 Skibbereen Girls which commemorates a group of teenage girls who emigrated during the time of the Famine to Melbourne Australia.
Prome Hossain: “Going to Skibbereen was an unforgettable experience…Waking up early was definitely worth it!”
