Elaine Garde from the Heritage Council engaged our first years in a lively energetic workshop about biodiversity and pollinators. The girls discovered the link between the letters of the Ogham Alphabet and nature, the relevance of the seasons and the continuity of life. They learnt the language of ecologists and the importance of bees and other pollinators to humans. They made mini bug hotels which they hung in the school yard. This complements the work of the TY girls who built a large bug hotel in September. Elaine kindly launched their bug hotel and commended their planting of pollinator friendly plants. St. Vincents are well on the road to aiding the National Pollinators Plan.
Many thanks to all students and staff for their aid in this project, especially Vivien for sharing her construction wisdom and skills. many thanks to Bernadette Connolly from Cork Environmental Forum for kindly funding this workshop.
