Five adventurous Transition Year students are travelling to Morocco on a trekking expedition in the Atlas Mountains in May. The students will also complete a community project repairing irrigation channels in a Moroccan farming community. Combining an expedition and a community project in the developing world facilitates the personal growth and the development of self-esteem and self-confidence among the students. The expedition will prove to be an invaluable life experience for the students concerned as they enter third level education and the world of work. Emma Casey Yelverton summarises the thoughts of the students prior to their departure: 'The hardest thing is not seeing my family and my friends. The best thing about this trip is helping a community and seeing a new place.' We wish them and their teacher Mr. J. Deane every good wish on their exciting expedition and we look forward to hearing of their adventures on their safe return. Helsa Okoro makes a presentation to Deputy Micheal Martin on his recent visit to the school.
