In a recent and innovative venture in St. Vincent’s , Science teacher Ms. Dodd joined forces with Art teacher Ms. Neill to create a cross curricular venture entitled ‘Science Meets Art'.
In the science lab TY students used a process which had been used for centuries to produce egg tempura paint. This paint was then used by the students in the Art room to paint stencils of their faces.
As part of this 'Science Meets Art' Module students were treated to an exciting visit around the Dulux Paint Factory (formally HGW Paints which has been producing paint for over 130 years on the Commons Road) the students enjoyed their visit to the modern plant with its state of the art production line. Dulux Technology Manager Mr. Fleming was very impressed that the St. Vincent’s students had produced their own paints in the science lab using calcium carbonate and egg yolks.
To complete the learning experience the students held an exhibition of their work in the school for all staff and students. The opening of the exhibition was attended by Emma Klemencic, Education Officer in the Crawford Art Gallery and Local Artist Christine O’Sullivan.
