We recently met with the new St. Vincent’s Assistant Basketball Coach at a cadet training session. Kaylee Kilpatrick has joined the very successful Dommie Mullins in coaching Basketball in our school for 2015/2016.
Kaylee is from St. John, New Brunswick in Canada. She has played at school, provincial and national level in her native Canada. She then went on to study Biomedical Science and play Basketball for the University of New Hampshire in the US. Having completed her degree she is currently playing professional Basketball with Brunells Senior Ladies’ Team and also coaching Basketball in St. Vincent’s. Following her gap year she plans to resume her medical studies. Kaylee is enjoying her work with the students. She is of the opinion that ‘sports teaches life skills and time management and experiences gained will lead to lifelong friendships’
Laura Morrissey who plays in the point guard position says that ‘Kaylee contributes a complimentary mindset to Dommie. She helps Laura to analyse her games and set targets to help her improve while at the same time ‘she makes it enjoyable.’
Zoe Mulcahy says that ‘Kaylee as a post player is helping her to be a better post player. She added ‘Kaylee is teaching me new plays and how to be a better team mate and she also encourages me to enjoy the game’
Coach Dommie Mullins is loud in his praise of Kaylee. He says ‘as a post player her focus is excellent and the post players on the team are benefiting big time.’ Dommie adds ‘in drilling sessions, Kaylee is innovative in introducing new ideas so that every member of the team is learning.’ He concludes by stating that ‘Kaylee is a wonderful teacher, generous in the time she gives to the girls and is a wonderful role model.’
We wish Kaylee a happy and successful year in Cork. We wish Dommie, Kaylee and the St. Vincent’s Basketball Team continued success as they put in some hard training prior to their Cup Match on Friday 23rd of October.
