TY students had a very enjoyable visit to the UCC Mardyke Sports Arena with their PE teacher Ms. S. Brosnan recently. They participated in a Wheelchair Basketball Tournament in aid of the Irish Wheelchair Association. The event was organised by the Sports Studies Students in UCC. Schools from all over the county participated. The students from St. Vincent’s were victorious against St. Mary’s Mallow on two occasions and were narrowly defeated by St. Peter’s, Passage West and Colaiste na Trionaide, Youghal.
The students gained a greater understanding of physical disability. They also gained an insight into and a respect for wheelchair users who continue to push the boundaries to overcome disabilities.
St. Vincent’s students with Ms. Brosnan entered fully into the fun elements of the day including the Cha Cha Swing, Rock the Boat and Renee Kelly Collins proved to be the champion of the Jump Rope Competition.
