The aim of the 'One Book One Community' project is to encourage schools, communities and parents to work together to promote a love of reading. The project endeavours to foster positive relations between the home, school and community and to promote literacy in the home. The project is part of the SVSS DEIS Programme.
Student groups drawn from many schools in the area, including SVSS primary and secondary schools were selected to read a chosen novel 'Sky Hawk'. Art representations, based on the readings were then constructed by the students with their parents. This beautiful project is now on display in the Blackpool Library for all to see!
As a further part of the project, a table quiz saw seven local schools go head to head to compete for their respective school. A parent joined the students on each team. SVSS hosted the quiz and were victorious.
Thanks to Ms. M. Fitzgerald, HSCL Teacher and Ms. N. Henry, English Teacher for facilitating the project for SVSS.
