SVSS Students received attendance certificates from the Lord Mayor in City Hall recently. The students received their awards to mark perfect attendance for the 2017/2018 academic year, while others received their awards for a significant improvement in attendance. Also present were their proud parents, Katherine Bulman (Principal) and Michelle Fitzgerald (HSCL Teacher). The ceremony was followed by a reception for students, parents and school staff. We wish to thank the Lord Mayor and his staff for recognising the importance of school attendance and its value in the education of our students.
Leaving Certificate Students hosted a coffee morning for staff as an expression of their appreciation for the work and dedication of all staff throughout their secondary education at SVSS . Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 2018. We wish everyone the best of luck in the forthcoming State Examinations.
First Years enjoyed a great sporting event in SVSS recently. The students enjoyed the fun, teamwork and competition elements of a Basketball Blitz. They also learned about the importance of sport and activity for good health and wellbeing. Many thanks to Year Head of First Year Ms. J. O' Sullivan and the TY students for organising the Blitz.
Congratulations to First Year student Lily Kent on her recent sporting success. Lily achieved second place in the under 65KG Girls' White Belt Category in the 2018 Irish Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Open. The CIT Tourism and Hospitality Department visited our Fifth Year Home Economics students in the school recently. The students enjoyed an informative talk on the work of the Department at CIT and were then treated to a hands on session of mocktail making and piping pastry fillings of lemon and chocolate. A fantastic morning was enjoyed by all. They also gave students information on future career paths. Many thanks to CIT personnel and to Home Economic Teachers Ms. C. Boyle and Ms. S. Connolly for organising this event.
Congratulations to Sarah Constant on her recent Athletics achievements. Sarah is a relative newcomer to Athletics and has achieved much in a very short time. She started race walking in December 2017 and made it to the All Ireland Finals. She recently represented SVSS in the Schools' South Munster Division where she achieved a new personal best. We wish Sarah good luck as she now advances to the Munster Regional Finals and we hope she makes it all the way to the Schools' All Ireland Championships in June. The Council presented the Board with a copy of the SVSS Constitution of the Student Council. Council members also presented an overview of their work for 2017/2018 year to the Board. The Board thanked Ms. M. McCarthy (Liaison Officer) and the Student Council for their work and contribution to the school community.
