SVSS students went surfing recently at Garretstown Beach.
They were accompanied by Ms. J. O' Sullivan and Ms. T. Deasy. Student Anna Stack caught the spirit of the day: I really enjoyed surfing. It was awesome. I had an adventure. I rode up and down the waves! A programme of activities was held during the recent Well-being Week at SVSS to promote a sense of happiness and positive mental health among our students. These activities included: Random Acts of Kindness; Thought for the Day delivered by SVSS students; Compliment Box/Shout Out Box; Promotion of the ‘Darkness into Light’ walk amongst our Senior Cycle students; TY students delivered an Internet Safety talk to our 1st Years. In addition to these activities, student well-being has been promoted throughout our student population during the year by the Resilience Academy Programme, run by Pieta House. Some students and their mothers also participated in the iGirls Programme. The Mind Your Head Programme was also delivered to our Transition Year students. Darkness into Light (Saturday 6th May 2017)
Darkness into Light is a fund-raising suicide awareness event for Pieta House. Each year walks take place throughout the country to coincide with the sun rising. 'Darkness into Light' is a powerful metaphor to highlight that from the darkest moments there will always be hope. Money raised helps keep Pieta House's life-saving services free and helps them to broaden the services that can be provided to those in need. As part of SVSS activities to promote positive mental health and resilience amongst our school community a group of around 55 people comprising of students, past pupils, teachers and parents from St. Vincent’s Secondary School took part in Pieta House’s ‘Darkness into Light’ walk on Saturday, May 6th 2017 at the early hour of 4a.m. The event was enjoyed by all and highlighted the willingness of our entire school community to positively promote the well-being of everyone in our school community. We are very proud to have raised in the region of €2030 to help support Pieta House. Contact Details: http://www.pieta.ie/contact-us First year students and fifth year geography students recently enjoyed a trip to the west of Ireland. They visited the famous Cliffs of Moher and the Ailwee Caves. They experienced the famous birds of prey show and they also got to experience walking on the clints and grikes in the Karst region of the Burren landscape and even visited a portal dolmen.
The students enjoyed visiting these natural features, which were brought to life by the trip. Students said that reading and looking at pictures in text books did not prepare them for how beautiful the features were. Thanks to Ms. O'Sullivan, Mr. Lynch, Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Klekotka Magner who organised the trip. Congratulations to St Vincent's Secondary School, worthy winners of the Inter Schools Credit Union Quiz, who defeated the North Monastery and the Scoil Mhuire AG. The quiz was organised by the Cathedral Credit Union. Photo includes Anneka O'Donoghue, Aoibh Kingston, Sarah Horgan and Ellen O'Shea. Each student received €25 and St. Vincent's received €250.
