18/11/2016  Science Week 2016 @SVSS ~ Biopharmachem Visit

11/18/2016

TY and Fifth Year students visited the Cork Training Centre as part of Science Week 2016 @ SVSS.  The event, hosted by Biopharmachem Ireland, provided the students with an opportunity to explore various aspects of science related employment.  Chemical Engineers from Eli Lily described their work, while Microbiologist Valerie, described her role in bioprocessing, and highlighted the importance of hygiene in the workplace.

Students stated that Valerie gave a very interesting view of Women in Science and saw Chemistry and Biology lessons come to life before their eyes in the world of work.

18/11/2016  Christmas Shoebox Charity Appeal @ SVSS

11/18/2016

Second Year class Aislinn have just completed their CSPE Action Project - the Shoebox Appeal - in aid of the charity Hope. This nationwide project invites people to fill a shoebox full of gifts which are then sent to disadvantaged children in different parts of the world such as Africa for Christmas.  Class Aislinn collected a massive 72 shoeboxes in total and received a certificate of appreciation from Team Hope.  The students thanked fellow-students, parents and staff for their contributions.  Hopefully, Christmas will have been made a really special occasion for a little boy or girl this year.

First Year Class Naoise have just completed an exciting art project called Our Secret Garden. The framed floral jigsaw puzzle contains hidden messages.  Messages were written by First Year Art students and are contained in each flower.  These messages will be opened when our class group is in Sixth Year in 2022.
