St Vincent’s artists have done it again!
St Vincent’s 1st Year Cliodhna pupils proudly exhibited their amazing art works at the 2019 My Education My Future Art Exhibition, run by the CIT in conjunction with Cork’s Life Long Learning Festival, now an annual event on the St Vincent’s Art Calendar. Congratulations to Eilish Hickey and Laile Abdelnapy won were awarded a Special Commendation Prize. Well done girls, we are so proud of you once again! Ms Neill Well done and thank you to the 11 teams who participated in today’s German Multimedia Quiz on German Language and Culture. It was a tight competition with Team 9 from St. Colman’s Community College, Midleton taking First Place. Ashton Comprehensive School and Pobalscoil na Tríonóide were close runner ups. Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Thank you to the German and Austrian Embassies, the Goethe Institut, Lidl Midleton, Siemens, the Post Primary Language Initiative, etwinning and Léargas for their support and generosity providing prizes. Proceeds of the quiz will go to the Mercy Hospital Cork and Kieran O’Connor Fund. German teachers Ms. Henry and Ms. Twomey would like to also express their gratitude to the TY students of German and staff in Midleton College and St. Vincent’s Secondary School, Cork. Without their hard work and dedication this would not have been possible. A true team effort!
Preparations are in full swing amongst TY students of German in Midleton College and St. Vincent’s Secondary School, Cork for their first joint project: A multi-media quiz on German Language and Culture. Supported by the Post Primary Language Initiative, Leargás, etwinning and by various German companies and institutions, the event will take place on 8 April 2019 in Midleton College.
With schools from the Midleton, Cork and Waterford region already having confirmed their attendance, excitement is building to see which school will be crowned overall winner. Any secondary school wishing to enter a team, please get in touch with Ms. Henry or Ms. Twomey through our offices in Midleton College or St. Vincent’s Secondary School, Cork. To celebrate ‘Le mois de la Francophonie’, a month long celebration of the French language and French-speaking cultures (French is spoken by 275 million people in 57 countries over 5 continents, the second most learned language after English) Transition Year French students, after a trip to see the film ‘La Mélodie (Orchestra Class) at the 30th Cork French Film Festival, under the guidance of Ms. C. Boyle prepared and cooked Pancakes in Home Economics Class. They subsequently hosted a French breakfast of ‘les crêpes et les croissants’ for first year students, sponsored by Lidl, raising funds for Mental Health Ireland’s Smiley Pancake Campaign… ‘Be the Reason Someone Smiles Today!!’ |
